The little things

3/28/2017

A little over a week ago I went to visit a dear friend of mine and had a marvelous time! Due to a unexpected snowstorm that brought 18 inches of beautiful snow, we were able to go sledding and snowmobiling! Both were an adventure and full of memorable moments!
While I had a great time with my friend this is not the subject of my post but rather the trip up and back down. I decided it would be best to fly but I could not find a nonstop ticket in my price range so I had to settle for one stop in the Dulles airport. For those of you who may be familiar with Dulles you might understand my concern when I realized my layover was less than an hour! Though it is not a huge airport it can be difficult to get from one section to the other speedily. When I arrived at the departing gate in Charlotte I was able to find out which gate I would be arriving at and told it was not far from my connecting flight. That was a big relief.
Once I landed in Dulles I easily found my gate with about 30 minutes to spare. However I was to find out that I could have taken time to eat a full meal and still had plenty of time to reach my flight.
When I got there I stood in line since the boarding was scheduled to begin in 15 minutes. Those 15 minutes turned into an hour of waiting! The discontentment of the waiting passengers was growing as each minute passed. For those of you who know me I was very curious to find out what had taken place, fortunately there was a gentleman behind me who had all the juicy details! On the previous flight one of the passengers suffered from a seizure. A doctor, who happened to be on board, came to assist them and was promptly bit! After that the passenger went crazy and the stewardess was forced to ask for volunteer assistance from the remaining passengers. A soldier stepped forward and pinned the patient to the ground for the remaining flight! If I would have been there sooner I might have witnessed this passenger being escorted off the plane zip tied to a wheel chair! Somewhere through the ordeal some blood had been spilt and that was the main reason for the hour long delay, the plane had to be properly cleaned before we could board and I am very grateful for this.
Due to the severe delay I texted my friend that we were an hour behind schedule and she told me that it would actually work out perfectly with their arrival time to pick me up. In fact she only waited a few minutes for me!
My flight back was not as exciting but rather showed just how good my God is! Again I had a short layover in Dulles and like last time I asked what gate I would be landing in and how close it was to my departing flight. They said I would be landing in terminal A and depart from Terminal C which raised some concern since I found out that my current flight didn't even have a plane yet!
The staff soon realized that it would be difficult for me to make my other flight so they began to look for other options including any available flights with a neighboring airline.
To my delight they told me there was an opening on an American Airlines nonstop flight to Charlotte! There was only one catch, it was leaving at 7:08 and it was already 6:45! Needless to say I ran  the whole way but when I got to the area there was no one to be found! Suddenly a nearby door opened and staff member came out. I ran over to him and explained why I was there, he told me that the boarding was complete but he would check anyways. Thankfully they had not closed the plane door yet and I managed to claim a seat with just moments to spare. It was a wonderful flight and I arrived two hours earlier than I had expected to!
I know that the story might have been a little long but my point is to show just how much God cares for the little things. He knew that my friend needed extra time to get to the airport and arranged for a delay via a feisty passenger. He knew that I was dreading another hectic connecting flight plus late arrival home and allowed me to be upgraded to a nonstop flight that would bring me home sooner.
As I was flying home on my comfortable flight home(I had no one next to me!) I couldn't help but smile at the goodness of God. I am so thankful to serve a God who cares about the little things in my life!

I am just an ordinary girl who is loved by an extraordinary God and I seek to love others the same way. I love to bake, read, do puzzles, watch Hallmark movies, and go shopping with my mom!  This blog was created as a place where I could share some thoughts that the Lord has shown me and to be an encouragement to others who desire to know Him in a deeper way. My prayer is to learn to sit still and trust God with my future.

    Never miss a new post!
