Our Theme: Learning to Sit Still
This one day conference will consist of three workshops:
The Purpose and the Power of the quiet place - taught by Sarah Schurman
We know that our quiet time is to seek the Lord but how many of us come with that attitude? It is easy to come with a check list of so many verses but is that really the purpose? Our time in the Bible is more than just checking off a passage or topic. It is not about trying to learn as many facts as we can so we sound smart or spiritual in conversations. It is about getting alone with God, digging deep into the riches of His word and learning about Him. What happens when we do? What is the result of the quiet place? We will unpack both of these questions in this session along with practical tips and tools that can help you in your quiet time.
Daddy Issues? Why you can trust your Heavenly Father - taught by Marianne Barnett
When Naomi told her daughter-in-law Ruth to sit still, she was banking on the trustworthy character of Boaz. Trust is key to sitting still because it means you believe in someone. Over and over again God presents Himself as a Father but if you have suffered from an abusive father or were abandoned it can be hard trust in your Heavenly Father and sit still. Marianne will share her wisdom with us as she explains why God is trustworthy and why He is a Good Heavenly Father.
The Distractions of the Quiet Place - taught by Melissa Dawn Baker
Your phone dings just as you are getting ready to pray. You hear your children arguing as you try to sit down to have your quiet time. You are struggling with anxiety, fear, or worry. Your schedule seems to never slow down. These are just a few of the things that can distract us from the quiet place or in the midst of it. How do we carve out time or limit the distractions so we can truly sit still and know God? Melissa will help us mediate between life happens and taking time to just be still.
