This is a clipping from a magazine. It was the section called "It happened to me!" It always brings a smile to my face along with a laugh. I hope it does the same for you!
There's nothing like a warm cup of tea to cure what ails you - especially if you're at Rachel Howard's house! The sun was beginning to set on another warm day in Mississippi when my parents showed up with their good friends, Jim and Beryl Ebbs, who are from England. It was always a treat to have them visit. We loved their British accent; they loved our Southern hospitality. After getting them settled in the living room, I made my way to the kitchen to put the kettle on the stove. Hot tea was not common in our Southern household, but I knew our British friends always loved a cup. But this time... Jim took only occasional sips of tea, and Beryl sipped hers very slowly. I figured it was all the chatting. "That must be getting cold. Let me get you a fresh cup," I offered after a while. "Oh! No!" they blurted in unison. Then, looking a little embarrassed, "Thank you. We've had plenty," Beryl muttered. That's odd I thought, puzzled. But after they'd gone, and I began washing the cups, a light came on in my head. My daughter had been suffering with a cold. The night before, I had placed a tablespoon of Vicks VapoRub in the kettle and made a makeshift vapor-tent over her to help her breathe. And I hadn't soaked the kettle yet! I had just served my guests hot tea made with Vicks VapoRub! I immediately got on the phone and apologized profusely! Through hysterical laughter, Beryl said, "Oh, well, Jim felt a head cold coming on when we came to your house, but after drinking your tea, it's gone!" A very embarrassing incident gave us all a great laugh - and, who knows, maybe a cure for the common cold! Have you ever had something similar happen to you? Sarah GraceI am just an ordinary girl who is loved by an extraordinary God and I seek to love others the same way. I love to bake, read, do puzzles, watch Hallmark movies, and go shopping with my mom! This blog was created as a place where I could share some thoughts that the Lord has shown me and to be an encouragement to others who desire to know Him in a deeper way. My prayer is to learn to sit still and trust God with my future. Archives
