Sometimes a burden, troubled thoughts or a longing for something can keep our hearts and minds from resting with peace and our bodies from a good night's sleep. However, God desires that we have sweet sleep physically and peaceful rest mentally and spiritually as we trust in Him.
The Bible tells us that sleep is given to us as children of God because He loves us. Through many verses of Scripture God gives us the methods to have true rest spiritually, mentally and physically. 1 ~ Spiritual rest starts with knowing God as our Savior, then continues to grow as we learn more of God and His character and choose to believe the Truth of His Word. 2 ~ Mental rest comes as we obey the command of 1 Peter 5:7 “Casting all your care upon Him, for He careth for you.” We can and should pray about everything, not to inform God of our lives, because He already knows all about it, but to relieve our minds and hearts. God is a best listener and cares more about us than everyone in the whole world put together. Pray about all your troubled thoughts, fears, worries, burdens, desires and needs and watch God give you of His peace. Mental rest also comes as we praise the Lord for all He is and everything He has done in our lives. Listen to and sing Christ- honoring music every day. It is impossible for us to pray or praise God too much. Mental rest also comes by thinking on God and His Word. Isaiah 26:3 ~ “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusteth in Thee.” God promises His peace when we think right. Philippians 4:8 commands us and tells us what to think about: ~ “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Our thinking is very important and it does affect our sleep. So God tells us what to think about because He desires that we have good and sweet rest. 3 ~ Physical rest is better when we are not lazy. Ecclesiastes 5:12 says ~ “The sleep of a laboring man is sweet.” God designed work for our good and to help our bodies function properly. Working is a good thing and a way to serve the Lord. In all that we do, be it an office type job or being a homemaker, we must glorify God. So how is your rest? Is it sweet? If it is not, pray, sing, think about and believe God and His Word, trust in the Lord and serve Him however you can. Remember God loves you and wants you to have sweet rest spiritually, mentally and physically. Comments are closed.
