$1.87 was all the sum one young bride had to purchase a gift for her beloved husband. This was not enough to buy him a gift equal to the love she had in her heart for him. There had to be a way she could get the necessary funds in time for Christmas and she would not rest until it was found.
Christmas Eve finally arrived and the newlywed eagerly held her gift desperately trying to hold back her excitement. Her loving spouse, sitting beside her, was just as eager to give his beloved the gift he had bought. Yet when the gifts were exchanged they both realized they had given up the very thing the other's gift was meant to compliment. He sold his watch to purchase combs for his beautiful wife and she had sold her hair to obtain a chain for his watch. However they both realized that the love they shared was all they truly needed. This is of course the famous story, "Gift of the Magi" by O'Henry. It is one of my favorite stories because of the simple truth brilliantly illustrated, selflessness. Truly, Christmas is rooted in selflessness and sacrifice. God willingly sent His Son to be the sacrifice for our sins. Jesus Christ, willingly gave up His throne to come and be born in a simple stable to poor parents in order to save a sin-filled earth. He became our example of what Christmas means. It is not about receiving the most gifts or even giving the best gift. It is a reminder that we are to live selflessly for others. To "do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith" Galatians 6:10. My Christmas wish to all of you is that God's love will be evident today as we remember the best gift ever given to mankind and throughout the coming year! Merry Christmas and God bless us everyone! Sarah GraceI am just an ordinary girl who is loved by an extraordinary God and I seek to love others the same way. I love to bake, read, do puzzles, watch Hallmark movies, and go shopping with my mom! This blog was created as a place where I could share some thoughts that the Lord has shown me and to be an encouragement to others who desire to know Him in a deeper way. My prayer is to learn to sit still and trust God with my future. Archives
